84-Year-Old Hit, Killed After Exiting Car On Highway In Menands

An elderly man who got out of his car in the middle of a Capital District highway was struck and killed by another vehicle, authorities said.

The incident happened in Albany County at around 7:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 27, on I-787 in the village of Menands.

State police said 84-year-old Eddie Robinson, of Troy, was driving southbound when he stopped his vehicle in the center lane and got out.

He was standing in front of his car when it was struck by another vehicle from behind, police said.

The impact pushed Robinson’s car into him and he later died from his injuries at Albany Medical Center, according to police.

No other injuries were reported.

Investigators are still working to determine why Robinson stopped his vehicle in the center lane.
